New Delhi: The list of new district presidents for Uttar Pradesh will be released soon. The names of district presidents for 70 to 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh are set to be announced. In BJP, 98 district presidents are elected in Uttar Pradesh. Out of these, 70-75 district presidents will be announced. This will pave the way for the election of the state president.
Efforts afoot for selection of new state president
The party has stepped up efforts regarding the selection of the new state president for BJP in UP. The new state president of UP is expected to be announced by March 10.
The new state president could come from the Brahmin or OBC community. There is ongoing discussion over several potential candidates from both Brahmin and OBC communities for the post. One of UP’s deputy chief ministers is also in the race for the state president post. A deputy chief minister from UP might be appointed as the state president.
Uttar Pradesh is a crucial state for the election of the BJP national president as well. Nearly 100 members from UP will be part of the voting panel in the national council.
Earlier in February, it was reported that even though several rounds of meetings were held, the BJP had not been able to elect presidents in over a dozen districts. UP BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary had said that the list of new district chiefs was ready. The announcement of the list was delayed due to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s preoccupation with the bypolls and the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The BJP had earlier reportedly said that it will be using consensus as a strategy to appoint mandal and district chiefs, as well as the state president, rather than conducting elections for these positions.
