New Delhi: Amid Lawrence Bishnoi’s death threat to Salman Khan, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has requested the Bollywood actor to tender his apology to the jailed gangster over the blackbuck incident.
His comments come against the backdrop of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Baba Siddique’s killing by three assailants who are allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The farmer leader pointed out that the actor’s apology would not only help Salman Khan but it would also restore respect for the Bishnoi community.
“This is a matter that is related to the society. Salman Khan should go to a temple and ask for forgiveness for his past mistakes, or else you never know when the man in jail might do something to harm him,” Tikait said. “Badmaash aadmi hai woh (Lawrence Bishnoi is a dangerous man),” the farmer leader added.
He underlined that admitting one’s mistakes will go a long way in maintaining peace in society. Tikait pointed out that if Salman Khan apologises sincerely, it would not only help him but also restore respect for the Bishnoi community.
Salman Khan-Lawrence Bishnoi feud
The feud between Lawrence Bishnoi and Salman Khan goes back to the killing of a blackbuck, considered sacred by the Bishnoi community, in 1998. While Khan has denied the allegations, Bishnoi’s cousin, Ramesh, in a recent interview to NDTV claimed that the actor tried to resolve the matter by offering a blank cheque. However, Ramesh said that the community was not motivated by money; their anger was rooted in an ideological disagreement.
“Our blood was boiling at that time,” said Ramesh. He added that Lawrence came from a well-off background as his family owned 110 acres of land in India and he didn’t need any money.
Baba Siddique’s murder linked to Bishnoi gang
Baba Siddique, a former Congress minister and NCP leader, was gunned down on October 12 by three shooters in front of the office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique, in Mumbai’s Bandra. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique. The Mumbai Police has till now made 15 arrests in connection with the case.
