Law and order at mercy of goons as UP woman cop blackmailed by miscreant for friendship

New Delhi: Lucknow, a city grappling with a disturbing trend of violence against women, is now facing a new wave of outrage after an incident targeting a policewoman came to light. These incidents highlight the vulnerability of women in uniform, even as they strive to protect others.

The case was filed at the Hazaratganj women’s police station by a policewoman who had been subjected to harassment and blackmail by a man. The man’s persistent attempts to befriend the officer and threats on social media when his advances were rejected led to the woman filing a complaint.

Adding to the distress, the man used over 87 different phone numbers to contact the officer. The policewoman blocked all the numbers according to the complaint.

In another case of violence against a lady cop last year, a brutal assault on a lady police constable aboard the Saryu Express train on August 30th led to a swift response from the Allahabad High Court.

Concerned by the delay in recording the victim’s statement, the court had ordered the magistrate to visit the injured constable in the KGMC trauma centre and take her statement.

The court had also ordered a medical examination by a team of five doctors, including specialists in gynaecology, surgery, and medicine.
