New Delhi: Amid the controversy of the Centre’s Lateral entry move to recruit some senior officials in government departments, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has opposed the step saying it was not in favour of the decision.
Recently, the Centre released an advertisement inviting applications to fill up 45 posts through the concept of Lateral entry, which Opposition parties have severely criticised. Several Opposition leaders including LoP Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Sitaram Yechury have criticised the move.
Reacting to the move LJP (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan had always been in favour of reservations for the backward classes and castes and added that the move by the government was wrong. The Union Minister further said that he would raise the matter to the BJP-led government, Hindustan Times reported. Speaking about the government’s move, Paswan said his party always favored reservations. While adding that his party was not in favour of the move, the minister would raise the issue on the right platform.
How controversy started?
Earlier on Sunday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) issued a notification to recruit 45 joint secretaries, directors, and deputy secretaries through the process of lateral entry. Taking to X, LoP Rahul Gandhi had said on Sunday, “ Reservation of SC, ST and OBC categories is being openly snatched away by recruiting through lateral entry on important posts in various ministries of the central government,”
“I have always said that the underprivileged are not represented in all the top positions in the country, including the top bureaucracy. Instead of improving this, they are being pushed further away from top positions through lateral entry,” he added.
Also hitting out at the Government, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on X, “Instead of filling jobs in government departments, BJP has eliminated 5.1 lakh posts in the last 10 years by selling off Government of India’s shares in PSUs alone.”
