New Delhi: A city court is likely to consider on February 25 whether or not to take cognisance of a charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case linked to the alleged land-for-jobs scam involving Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and others.
Special judge Vishal Gogne scheduled to decide the matter on Friday (February 21), however, the judge adjourned the matter on February 25 after hearing clarifications from the central agency on certain points it had earlier raised.
The judge had on January 30 raised certain clarifications from the CBI with respect to elements of commonality and distinctiveness in the allegations recorded in the chargesheet.
Obtained requisite sanction to prosecute all accused, CBI earlier informed court
The CBI had on January 30 informed the trial court that it had obtained the requisite sanction to prosecute all the accused persons in the corruption case linked to the alleged land-for-jobs scam.
CBI last year filed before court requisite sanctions to prosecute 30 accused
The CBI had on November 26 last year filed before the court the requisite sanctions obtained from authorities concerned to prosecute 30 accused persons in the corruption case linked to the alleged land-for-jobs scam and had informed the judge that the requisite sanctions to prosecute one public servant RK Mahajan was still awaited. The court was later informed by the CBI that it had obtained sanction to prosecute RK Mahajan.
Obtained sanction to prosecute Lalu Prasad Yadav, CBI earlier informed court
Earlier, the central agency had on September 20 last year informed the trial court that it had obtained the requisite sanction to prosecute former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is an accused in the corruption case relating to the alleged land-for-jobs scam.
What is the case?
The CBI has alleged that Lalu Prasad Yadav, during his tenure as the railway minister between the period 2004-2009, indulged in corruption for appointment of Group D substitutes in Indian Railways. The central agency has alleged that the aspirants were asked to transfer land as bribe in return for jobs in Indian Railways and no advertisement or any public notice was issued for these appointments.
