New Delhi: Team India’s left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has backed Sarfaraz Khan to hit a double hundred on Day 4 of the first Test match between India and Bangladesh at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Sarfaraz recently scored a double-century for Mumbai in the Irani Cup.
The Mumbai batter was among the five Indian batters who scored a duck in the first innings of the match. But, he showed great resilience in the second innings and stitched a crucial 136-run partnership for the third wicket with Virat Kohli. He batted brilliantly and frustrated the Kiwi bowlers with his unorthodox style of play.
He scored his half-century in 42 balls and remained unbeaten on 70 runs off 78 balls while Kohli was dismissed on the last ball of the day. Indian batters need to bat well on Day 4 to challenge New Zealand in the opening Test and Sarfaraz is one of the key players for Team India. His ability to score quick runs without taking many risks will definitely help the team if he survives the first hour on day 4.
‘I hope Sarfarz scores a double hundred here too..’: Kuldeep Yadav
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav in the post-day press conference said that Sarfaraz has scored a double hundred in the Irani Cup and hoped that he would score one in the ongoing Test. He further said that Sarfaraz doesn’t allow spinners to settle down.
“We enjoy his [Sarfaraz] batting a lot. You saw how he scored a 200 in the Irani Cup. I hope he scores a double hundred here too… He doesn’t allow the spinners to settle down. He counter-attacked the left-arm spinner [Ajaz Patel], and they had to bring in a fast bowler from one end” Kuldeep Yadav said in the post-day press conference.
Kuldeep also praised Kiwi batter Rachin Ravindra and said that he played exceptionally well and has improved a lot in the last two years against spin. He also said that it is tough to control runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium due to the short boundaries.
“He played exceptionally well, choosing his scoring areas wisely. I had chances to get him out twice today. He has improved significantly over the last two years, especially against spin. Hopefully, he won’t score as heavily in the remaining matches” Kuldeep added.
