New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the matter related to the brutal rape-and-murder of a post graduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College today. The apex court had taken a suo moto cognizance of the incident that sparked doctors’ protest across the country.

The incident, which occurred on August 9, prompted the court to initiate legal proceedings on its own accord.

A three-judge bench presided by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud will hear the matter today. The bench also comprises Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

Polygraph test on accused

Meanwhile, a Kolkata court has granted permission to the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on the accused, Sanjay Roy. The date for the test has not yet been decided, as some procedures are still pending. The CBI will use the polygraph test to determine whether the accused is lying during interrogation.

The accused was arrested six hours after an SIT was formed to nab him. He is in police custody since then.

CBI team at RG Kar Medical College

A CBI team again visited the RG Kar Medical College. The team went straight to the top floor of the emergency ward. According to reports, the team was trying to determine whether there was any path on the roof through which someone could have accessed the seminar hall and escaped after committing the crime.

Security guards who were on duty at the hospital on the night of the incident accompanied the investigation team. The team spent considerable time on the roof before heading to the trauma center and then to the operation theater.

The CBI is inspecting every location that the accused, Sanjay Roy, visited on the day of the incident. They also visited the digital X-ray and MRI buildings.

Ex-principal of Kolkata hospital questioned again

CBI officers questioned the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, for the fourth consecutive day on Monday. They inquired why the victim’s parents were made to wait for nearly three hours at the hospital and who ordered the renovation of the rooms near the seminar hall in the emergency building after the incident. His WhatsApp chats and call details are also being scrutinized. Ghosh resigned from his position as principal two days after the incident, citing concerns about his safety. He sought protection from the court.
