New Delhi: An intense encounter is underway in the Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag, where two soldiers have been killed and two civilians injured. Security forces have trapped two terrorists, believed to be part of the same group that attacked Army personnel in Doda’s Dessa area, sources said.
The group of five terrorists has been using traditional routes of infiltration from Doda to enter South Kashmir and has been responsible for a series of attacks in recent weeks. On June 12, seven security personnel were injured in attacks in Chhatergala and Gandoh Bhalesa areas of Doda. Later, on June 26, three foreign terrorists from this group were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Gandoh Bhaderwah sector of Doda. Most recently, on July 16, four soldiers and a policeman were killed in the Doda district.
The terrorists are believed to be using sophisticated weapons, including armor-piercing bullets with hardened steel tips and M4 carbines, similar to those used by American and NATO forces in Afghanistan. Security forces have increased vigilance and are working to neutralise the trapped terrorists. The operation is ongoing.
