New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer’s future with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is still in doubt despite less than 48 hours left before the deadline for all ten Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to reveal their final retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Iyer led KKR to their third title triumph in IPL 2024 but is not among the sure-shot retentions at the franchise.
Thanks to the incredible quality in KKR’s title-winning squad from last season, Iyer is much lower in the pecking order. As per reports, the three-time champions are looking to retain the likes of Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana among others. A decision regarding Iyer’s future has not been made yet.
However, there might still be time for KKR to open the negotiations with Iyer and close a deal before the deadline on Thursday. As per a report in the Times of India, KKR opened dialogue with Iyer for the first time about their retention plans over the weekend. As per the report, the franchise had not contacted Iyer until Friday last week.
The report further adds that Iyer has captaincy offers from multiple franchises, who are interested in securing the services of the IPL-winning captain. Iyer is in talks with KKR but is unlikely to be their top retention.
