New Delhi: Union minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said that the opposition was using Bhimrao Ambedkar amid ruckus in both houses of the Parliament. Both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have been adjourned till 2pm over the disturbances.
The opposition led by Congress accused Union home minister Amit Shah of insulting Ambedkar and demanded an apology from him. As the House convened, Congress members moved into the Well, displaying Ambedkar’s posters and calling for an apology over Shah’s comments made during a Rajya Sabha discussion on Tuesday.
Rijiju accused Congress of conspiracy against Ambedkar
Rijiju while speaking in Rajya Sabha said that it was Congress who insulted Ambedkar, the Union minority affairs minister also accused the party of hatching a conspiracy to defeat Ambedkar.
He said: “Yesterday, Union HM Amit Shah clearly showed our sense of reverence in his speech. He also said how Congress insulted Ambedkar ji when he was alive . The Congress party did not award him with Bharat Ratna for so many years and along with that, the Congress party insulted Baba Saheb and defeated him in 1952 in an election under a conspiracy. I am a Buddhist and a person who follows the path shown by Baba Saheb. In this country, Baba Saheb resigned from the post of Law Minister in 1951. After 71 years, PM Narendra Modi made me, who is a Buddist the Law Minister of the country.”
Members of INDIA bloc also joined the Congress in protest
Members of the INDIA bloc also joined the Congress in the Well, while leaders from other Opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress, expressed support by standing at their seats. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were present in the House.
In Lok Sabha, law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal accused the Congress of consistently disrespecting Ambedkar, citing the party’s role in his defeat in Lok Sabha elections. Meghwal further alleged that the Congress now invokes Ambedkar’s name only out of compulsion, despite lacking genuine respect for him.
