New Delhi: In the past nine financial years Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has registered a growth of 332% in the sale of indigenous Khadi products made by artisans in rural areas, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises informed in June last year.
From Rs 31k crore to Rs 1.34 lakh crore
The turnover of Khadi and Village Industries Commission products also crossed Rs 1.34 lakh crore figure in 2022-23.
While the turnover of Khadi and Village Industries products was Rs 31,154 crore in the financial year 2013-14, it has increased to the highest level of Rs 1,34,630 crores in the financial year 2022-23.
Over 9.5 lakh new jobs created in rural areas
KVIC also created 9,54,899 new jobs in rural areas.
Chairman of KVIC Manoj Kumar gave the credit for this achievement to inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi, and the ‘Brand Shakti’ of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi along with the tireless hard work of artisans working in remotest villages of the country.
