New Delhi: Altaf, a mechanic from Pandavapuram near Mysuru in Karnataka has won the coveted Kerala Thiruvonam Bumper Lottery, claiming a staggering prize of Rs 25 crore with ticket number TG 434222. The draw took place at Gorky Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday at 2pm.
Altaf, who has been participating in the lottery for over 15 years, expressed his immense joy at finally striking it lucky. He plans to use the windfall to organise a grand wedding for his children, fulfilling a long-held dream, according to reports in the local media. Upon sharing the news with his relatives, many initially doubted his claim. It was only when he showed them a screenshot of the winning number broadcast on television that they were convinced of his extraordinary fortune.
Altaf to get Rs 12.88 crore net payout
The draw was inaugurated by Kerala finance minister K N Balagopal, who was joined by MLA V K Prasanth and Abraham Renn, the director of the lottery department. This year’s event saw a record sale of 71,43,008 tickets. Last year, the lottery had four joint winners from Tamil Nadu. The winning ticket was purchased at SJ Lucky Centre located in Panamaram, Sultan Bathery.
Altaf will face tax deductions amounting to approximately Rs 12.11 crore, leaving him with a net payout of around Rs 12.88 crore after all applicable charges.
In addition to the first prize, the lottery also awarded Rs 1 crore each to 20 winners of the second prize, totalling Rs 20 crore. Winning ticket numbers for the second prize were drawn from various districts, including Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram, and Thrissur.
