Thiruvananthapuram: The official weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in southern districts of the state the next 4 days with an orange alert being issued for Pathanamthitta and Palakkad districts. The IMD has advised the district officials to alert the public to relocate from landslide-prone areas and also from the river banks where water levels could rise due to intense downpour.
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall till November 3 in southern districts of the state.
A yellow alert with heavy rainfall alert is being issued to all south districts as per below:
October 31 (Thursday): Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki
November 1 (Friday): Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram
November 2 (Saturday): Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad.
November 3 (Sunday): Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad.
The IMD has recommended to the district authorities to open up emergency camps near vulnerable areas and thus exercise caution. Residents are urged to avoid crossing flooded areas, climbing onto bridges for photos, and unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall. It is essential to to ensure the safety of nearby trees and poles and report any hazards to the authorities. Preparing an emergency kit and seeking assistance from local control rooms is also advisable.
Explosions continued to be heard in parts of Malappuram
Meanwhile, the huge explosions continued to be heard in parts of Malappuram such as Anakkal where on Tuesday and Wednesday huge explosions from the earth surface where heard. As per sources from Malappuram, the explosions were heard twice in the Anakkal Panchayat. Officials from the geology department arrived at the area and are trying to ascertain the reasons that has led to the loud sounds. On Tuesday night and Wednesday morning explosions were heard at around 1-kilometre distance from Anakallu.
