New Delhi: Congress leader Ajay Maken on Saturday said that while his party wanted to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi in alliance with AAP, Arvind Kejriwal did not allow it. As per Maken, the former Delhi had decided the AAP would contest the elections alone. Delhi will go to polls on February 5, while results will be announced on February 8.
Speaking to the media, the Congress leader slammed the ruling party in Delhi for failing to stop the BJP’s rise in Delhi. In a message to INDIA bloc he added that the fight with the BJP won’t be possible by weakening the Congress.
‘Congress wanted to enter an alliance with AAP in Delhi’
He added that the Congress wanted to enter into an alliance with AAP in both Delhi and Haryana. “Congress was looking to enter into an alliance with AAP for the assembly elections. However, after coming out of jail, Kejriwal said that AAP would contest all seats in Haryana alone, even as talks between both parties were at the final stage,” he added.
The former Union Minister further noted that while Delhi might not be a significant state politically, the party that wins the Lok Sabha seats in the capital goes on to form government at the Centre. Talking about the time when Sheila Dikshit was CM, he added, that he observed that the party won all seven seats and also stopped the BJP.

“By stopping them in Delhi, we stopped them from assuming power at the Centre as whosoever wins Lok Sabha seats in Delhi goes on to form the national-level government,” he noted as per news agency PTI.
He added, “But ever since the AAP has come to power in Delhi, the opposite is happening and the BJP has been forming the government at the Centre as it has won all the seven Lok Sabha seats. Then who is with the BJP?”
