Rudraprayag: On Monday, the movement of horses and mules was restored on Kedarnath trek route after 26 days of cloudburst incident occurred on 31 July in Kedarnath valley. This has helped the administration to send ration and other essentials to Kedarnath shrine.
Operation of horses and mules was completely stopped
Following the disaster due to cloudburst on 31July, the operation of horses and mules between Gaurikund and Kedarnath was completely stopped which has hampered the supplies of ration and other essentials to the shrine. On Monday, ration and other essential items were delivered to the Dham on more than 20 horses and mules. Ration, vegetables and other essential items were sent to Kedarnath that left at 5 am and reached the shrine by noon.
Various agencies have been engaged in restoration work
As the movement of horses and mules are possible on this route, preparations are underway to start the journey on foot soon. As per the sources in administration, the material for the reconstruction work can also be sent to the Kedarnath shrine which can give momentum to reconstruction work in Kedarnath valley. PWD, BRO, SDRF and NDRF have been pressed into service for the earliest possible restoration of the Kedarnath trekking route.
The highway was damaged at 29 places
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar informed that the Gaurikund-Kedarnath trek route was severely damaged at 29 locations due to a disaster on 31 July after a cloudburst incident near Bhimbali area. Afterwards, repair work began on August 1, with the Public Works Department employing 270 workers over 25 days to make the route passable.
Repair work in being carried out at faster pace
Under the guidance of Rudraprayag DM Saurabh Gaharwar, robust measures are being implemented to ensure safe passage. Additionally, the repair of the damaged road in the five-kilometer stretch between Sonprayag and Gaurikund on the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund National Highway is progressing rapidly.
