Dehradun: After facing defeat in Badrinath and Mangalore assembly by-polls in Uttarakhand recently, the ruling BJP wants to leave no stone unturned to win Kedarnath assembly by-polls scheduled on 20 November. Learning from its past experiences, the party is taking every step cautiously to save its prestige.
In its endeavours to secure a win, the BJP has decided to give concrete shape to the Champawat by-polls model in Kedarnath. Under this, there will be special emphasis on the principle of ‘Win the booth, win the election’, to register the win. Booth-level workers will be mobilized to engage with voters and beneficiaries, ensuring they are not swayed by the opposition party, Congress.
Defeat in Badrinath and Mangalore by-polls
Recently, the BJP faced defeat in the by-elections for the Badrinath and Mangalore assembly seats. This marks the first time the ruling party has experienced disappointment in a by-election in the state. The Mangalore seat, previously held by the BSP, was won by Congress in the by-election. Although the Badrinath seat was not initially with the BJP, it held significance as the BJP had managed to bring the Congress MLA to its side during the Lok Sabha elections and made him their candidate in the by-election.
Comprehensive strategy for Kedarnath seat
Learning from the results of the recent by-elections, the BJP has devised a comprehensive strategy for the Kedarnath by-election. This seat was previously held by the BJP, and now the party faces the challenge of retaining it. To address this, the party plans to implement its successful Champawat model, where CM Pushkar Singh Dhami achieved a decisive victory. The strategy involves strong coordination between the organization and the government, with responsibilities assigned to workers at the booth level.
This model is being followed in Kedarnath
Following the Champawat model, the BJP is actively working in the Kedarnath area. Teams of 15 workers each have been deployed at all 174 booths in the assembly constituency. Panna Pramukhs have been assigned to each booth to contact voters listed on their respective pages. Five state government ministers have been given responsibility for one division each in the region. A panel of six names has been sent to the central leadership for candidate selection. Once the candidates are announced, both the organization and the government will work with full dedication. Plans for election meetings with national leaders, including the Chief Minister, are being finalized. Afterwards, the organization and the government will jointly prepare the election strategy.
