Kedarnath by-polls: Special campaign to seize licensed arms for peaceful polling

Dehradun: The Rudraprayag district administration has done its groundwork for smooth conduct of the Kedarnath assembly by-polls. The Kedarnath by-polls is necessitated because of the sudden death of BJP MLA from this seat Shailarani Rawat in July this year.

The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for peaceful polling which is scheduled to be held on November 20. The results of the by-polls will be declared on November 23.

Special drive to seize the licensed arms

As per the reports, a total of 163 polling centres as well as 173 polling booths have been created by the administration for the Kedarnath by-polls. Over 95 percent licensed arms were deposited ahead of the Kedarnath by-polls. Eight flying squad teams (FSTs) and 10 static surveillance teams (SSTs) have been constituted to ensure peaceful polling during Kedarnath by-polls scheduled to be held on November 20. The district has been divided into two zones accommodating 27 sectors which will remain under the vigilance of teams of the FSTs and the SSTs.

ADG held videoconferencing with authorities to review the preparations for the by-polls

Recently, additional director general of police (ADG) A P Anshuman reviewed the preparations for the Kedarnath by-polls during a video-conferencing meeting with the authorities concerned with the Kedarnath by-polls. He is also nodal officer for the elections in the state.

The Rudraprayag district administration has so far seized around 210 litres of illicit liquor. The administration has also launched a special campaign to identify the anti-social elements who can affect the Kedarnath assembly by-polls. The police will initiate actions against all such anti-social elements under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

Emphasis on regular police patrolling

ADG Anshuman, during his recent meeting with authorities concerned with the Rudraprayag district administration, directed them to plan for the deployment of forces in the Kedarnath by-polls in advance. He underlined the need for regular police patrolling in the areas accommodating Kedarnath assembly seat, besides proper coordination with the neighbouring districts.
