New Delhi: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has made the Aadhaar card mandatory for the registration process of all the entrance and recruitment exams conducted by the authority. Candidates applying for the KEA exams like the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), Common Entrance Test (CET) and others will now have to enter the Aadhar details will filling out the application form.
While filling out the form or choosing an option, candidates will have to enter their Aadhaar number. After entering the Aadhaar number, an OTP will be sent to the candidate’s registered mobile number which will be directly generated from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Candidates will then have to enter the OTP, after which the application process will proceed to the next stage. If this process fails, the application will not procee further.
Why KEA has decided to go for Aadhar-based registration?
This decision has been taken due to the alleged seat-blocking scam which was found to have occurred in the CET counselling process in the years 2023 and 2024. During the counselling, many candidates blocked seats using the same IP address and the same mobile number. Moreover, they also provided fake email IDs and phone numbers to the KEA which showed that the seats were blocked by false credentials.
As per sources, H Prasanna, executive director, KEA said, “Most of the students applying online for entrance exams and other recruitment exams depend on cyber cafes for the same. It is common at these cyber centres to submit multiple applications using a mobile number of the cyber centre to even get the OTP. Due to this, the students do not get the necessary information about the exams. There are possibilities of misusing this number for seat blocking. This will also be sorted out by making Aadhaar mandatory”.
The use of Aadhar details will now not only prevent irregularities in seat allotment but also check other issues like false applications, impersonation in examinations and more that have come up in the exams conducted by KEA, stated the executive director.
Form when Aadhar-based registration will be implemented?
A proposal for the same has been submitted by KEA to the e-Governance Department. Once it is confirmed, the exam conducting authority will go for the Aadhaar-based registration from the year 2025.
