New Delhi: Kannada filmmaker Guruprasad, age 52, known for directing films such as Mata, Eddelu Manjunatha, and Director’s Special, was reportedly found dead in his Madanayakanahalli apartment on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Although the police are investigating his death to confirm the time and manner of passing away, reports suggest that it was suicide.
As per a report by Asianet News, the director’s neighbours detected a foul smell from his apartment and called the cops. Upon arrival, the police reportedly found Guruprasad’s body hanging from the ceiling. The time and date of death are not certain as reports claim that the director took his life at least 2-3 days prior and was found on November 3, 2024.

As per reports, the foul smell was first detected at 11 AM on November 3, 2024, when the apartment’s security personnel shared that there was a stench coming from their apartment’s tower number 27. When residents went investigating they reportedly used a ladder to peep into Guruprasad’s flat and found that he was hanging.
While speaking to local media, a resident of the apartment said that he last saw Guruprasad at least four days ago. He further claimed that Prasad had been living alone in that apartment for almost a year.
Speculation around director Guruprasad’s death
While there is no confirmation, reports suggest that Guruprasad may have been under financial pressure from massive debts, which allegedly prompted him to take his own life. These speculations arose as the director was reportedly accused of non-payment of dues and faced court cases. It is said that the failure of his recent film, Ranganayaka, pushed him into debt.
Guruprasad’s family
The director is survived by two daughters and his second wife. Guruprasad recently remarried and the couple was expecting a child together. Guruprasad’s wife was reportedly at her family’s home during the incident.
