New Delhi: With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) facing crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls on Saturday, the party’s former leader Kumar Vishwas said justice has been delivered today. Incidentally, party chief Arvind Kejriwal, too, lost from the New Delhi seat against BJP’s Parvesh Varma.
As per the latest trends on the Election Commission’s official website, the BJP has won or leading in 48 seats, while AAP won or leading in 22 seats. All 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly went to polls. The results made the way for BJP’s comeback in Delhi after nearly 27 years, dashing the AAP’s dream of forming the government for a fourth successive time.
I congratulate the BJP for victory: Kumar Vishwas
Speaking to ANI on the election results, Vishwas said, “I congratulate the BJP for the victory, and I hope that they will work for the people of Delhi. I have no sympathy for a man who crushed the dreams of AAP party workers. Delhi is now free from him. He used those dreams for his personal ambitions. Today, justice has been delivered. When we got the news of Manish Sisodia losing from Jangpura, my apolitical wife cried.”
Kejriwal, Sisodia, and several other senior AAP leaders lose
Importantly, while Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia lost from their respective seats, apart from Satyendra Jaon and Saurabh Bharadwaj, outgoing Chief Minister Atishi and three of her ministers Gopal Rai, Mukesh Ahlawat and Imran Hussain, managed to win from their respective seats.
“We accept the mandate of people with folded. I congratulate the BJP for this victory. I hope they will fulfill promises made to people, for which they have voted for them,” Kejriwal said in a video address,” after it became clear that AAP lost the Delhi polls.
He added, “We have done a lot of work in the field of health, education, and infrastructure in the last 10 years. We will not only play the role of a constructive opposition but will also remain among the people and continue to serve them.”
