Srinagar: An army soldier who was injured following an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)’s Sopore succumbed to injuries on Monday. He was earlier injured during the overnight encounter at Zaloora Gujjarpati area of Sopore.
As per officials, the soldier lost his life when he was being evacuated from the scene of the gunbattle. The security forces had cordoned off the area on Sunday after receiving the information of two terrorists hiding in the area. Following this, an intense search operation was carried out to nab the terrorists which soon led to an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists.
The search operation started on Sunday
The anti-terrorist operation which started on Sunday, continued for the second day on Monday and increased searches for suspected terrorists in the area. The entire operation started after security forces noticed fire while raiding a terrorist hideout.
Releasing a statement on Sunday on X about the encounter, Kashmir Zone Police wrote, “During a CASO launched by Police & SFs at Zaloora, Sopore a hideout was busted. During the same, fire was observed from inside. The area was cordoned off. Further details shall follow.”
Five terrorists were killed last month
Last month, at least five terrorists were killed during an encounter with security forces in the Kulgam district of the Union Territory. Two security forces personnel also suffered injuries during the encounter. “Bodies of five terrorists are lying in the orchards but have not been retrieved yet,” added the official.
“Five terrorists have been neutralized by the security forces in the ongoing Operation in Kader, Kulgam. During the firefight, two soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated for medical care. Operation is in progress,” the Indian Army had said in a statement.
