New Delhi: The second phase of polling on 26 seats in six districts for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections is under way. The voting started at 7am and will get over at 6pm. Around 24.10% voter turnout has been registered till 11 am in the second phase of J&K Assembly elections.
In key constituencies such as Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi, which have seen a rise in terror attacks, security has been tightened.
More than 2.5 million voters are exercising their franchise to decide the fate of 239 candidates, including 79 in the Pir Panjal region of Jammu during the second phase.
The polls assume importance as these are the first assembly elections being held in Jammu and Kashmir in 10 years, after the abrogation of Article 370.
On September 8, the first phase of voting was held across 24 constituencies in seven districts, according to the Election Commission of India. The third phase will take place on October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
