Jammu: An army jawan was injured following a landmine blast under Balakote Sector in Mendhar area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources suggest that the jawan was injured after he accidentally stepped over a landmine at Tarkundi along the Line of Control (LoC). The jawan has suffered injury in his left foot. He was immediately shifted to army hospital for treatment.
Injured jawan identified
The injured jawan has been identified as rifleman Mohd Asif Rather. He was part of a patrolling party that was patrolling the area around 5 pm, PTI said citing sources.
The forward areas along the LoC are dotted with landmines that are sometimes washed away by rains, resulting in accidents. These landmines are laid as part of anti-infiltration obstacle system against the terrorists.
Two jawans killed in IED blast
In a similar incident on February 11, two army jawan were killed in an IED blast allegedly set off by terrorists. The incidenttook plae Laleali in Akhnoor Sector.
Army officials said the IED was exploded in Laleali in Akhnoor Sector when the jawnas were on fence patrol. The resultant blast took away the lives of two jawans.
“Our troops are dominating the area and search operations are underway. White Knight Corps salutes and pays tribute to the supreme sacrifice of two gallant soldiers,” the Army had said in a statement.
Army believed that the IED was planted by the terrorists along the LoC. Among the deceased soldiers were a Captain and a soldier. another jawan was critically injured in the incident.
Home Minister’s review meet last week
Last week, Home Minister Amit Shah held a high level meet in New Delhi to review security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The review meeting was held as part of central government’s efforts to making J&K free from terror threats.
The meeting focused on monitoring of terror financing, narco-terrorism and dismantling the terror ecosystem in the valley.
The BSF was directed by home minister to strengthen the border grid to ensure ‘zero infiltration’ with use of advanced technology.
