New Delhi: The much-awaited results for the Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024 will be revealed on November 23, following two phases of polling held on November 13 and 20 across 81 constituencies. As the counting process gets underway, updates will be made available on the Election Commission of India’s official website, results.eci.gov.in.
The day-long counting will culminate in the final tally, determining the composition of the next state government. With political parties, candidates, and voters closely following the developments, the results will shape Jharkhand’s political landscape for the next five years.
Voter turnout
The two-phase elections witnessed a voter turnout of 67.74%, an increase of 1.65% compared to 2019. According to Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar, women voters played a significant role, outnumbering men in 68 out of the 81 constituencies. Over 91.16 lakh women participated, surpassing the male voter count by 5.52 lakh, as per election officials. The elections saw voting for 43 seats on November 13 and 38 seats on November 20, with over 1.76 crore of the 2.61 crore registered voters casting their ballots. Among these, 1.29 crore were women voters.
The elections are a showdown between two primary alliances: the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led India bloc and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA. A total of 1,211 candidates are in the fray, including several prominent political figures.
Key candidates in fray
Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister and JMM leader, is contesting from Barhait, while his wife, Kalpana Soren, is vying for the Gandey seat. Other key JMM candidates include Basant Soren from Dumka and Mahua Maji, who faces BJP’s C.P. Singh in Ranchi. On the BJP side, Babulal Marandi, the party’s state president, is contesting from Dhanwar. Purnima Das Sahu, daughter-in-law of former CM Raghubar Das, is competing for the Jamshedpur East seat, while Amar Kumar Bauri is in the race for Chandankiyari.
The election also features notable independent and regional contenders. Saryu Roy, formerly with the BJP, is representing Janata Dal (United) in Jamshedpur West. Sudhesh Mahato, president of AJSU, is contesting from Silli. As anticipation builds, Jharkhand awaits the results that will define its governance and political direction for the coming years.
