Jhansi: The Uttar Pradesh Government has formed a four-member committee the probe the fire incident in a medical college in Jhansi district in which 10 infants were charred to death. The official suspects that a short circuit might have to the incident. As per authorities, a total of 16 children are also under treatment in the other wards of the medical college.
The committee will be headed by the Director General of Medical Education and Training. The state government has asked it to identify the reasons behind the incident and find out whether any kind of negligence was involved in the incident. It has also been asked to submit a report within a week.
NHRC issues notice on the incident
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the state government and the state police chief in connection with the incident. Calling the incident disturbing, it asked for a detailed report within a week. It also observed that the contents of the report are “indeed disturbing and indicate negligence” which resulted in a “grave violation” of the human rights of the victims.
The commission further said that the commission report must include the status of the FIR in the case, action taken against those responsible, medical treatment being given to the injured, and the compensation paid to the families of infants who lost their lives in the tragedy.
UP Govt rejects claims of expired fire extinguishers
Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak, who visited the site on Saturday, said that all fire extinguishers were fine and that a fire safety audit was carried out in February. Apart from this, the mock drill was also conducted in June. Earlier, soon after the incident came to light, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked the fire department, Divisional Commissioner of Jhansi, and the deputy inspector general of police to submit a report on the incident.
