Srinagar: With the second phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir slated to be held on September 25, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will address two public rallies in the Union Territory on Monday. While he will address the first rally in the Surankote constituency, the Congress leader will address the second rally at the Shalteng constituency.
Rahul Gandhi to address two public meetings
The former Congress president was scheduled to reach Srinagar on Monday morning in a special aircraft. From there he will fly to Surankote in a helicopter. While his Surankote is scheduled to be held at 12:30 pm, his second rally in Shalteng will be held at 2:30 pm. Rahul Gandhi will return to New Delhi after addressing the two rallies in the evening.
The Congress had earlier entered into a pre-poll alliance with Jammu and Kashmir in the Union Territory. As per the agreements between the two parties, the National Conference will contest 52 seats while Congress will contest 31. The alliance partners have left two seats uncontested. While one has been left for CPI(M), the other has been left for Panthers Party.
Friendly fight in five constituencies
Importantly, both the alliance partners were unable to reach on consensus on five seats of Jammu and Kashmir. Among them included Nagrota, Banihal, Kishtwar, and Doda in Jammu and Sopore in Kashmir Valley. The candidates put by the Congress and the National Conference will engage in a friendly fight in these five seats. While the second phase of the elections will be held on September 25, the third phase will be held on October 1. The results of the polls will be declared on October 5 along with that of Haryana.
