Doda: The counting of votes for 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir is underway. In a major political milestone, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has opened its account in the region by winning its first seat.
Mehraj Malik, AAP’s candidate from Doda, secured a victory over BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana, defeating him by more than 4,500 votes. Mehraj garnered a total of 22,611 votes, while Rana came in second with 18,063 votes.
Who’s leading in Jammu and Kashmir?
As per the latest trends from Election Commission, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading the race with 6 wins and is leading in 23 other constituencies, potentially bringing its total to 29 seats. Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKN) is performing strongly, having won 4 seats and currently leading in 37 others, which could result in a total of 41 seats.
Other major parties, such as Indian National Congress (INC), have yet to secure any seats but are leading in 6 constituencies. Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) is leading in 4 seats but has not registered any confirmed wins.

Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir People Conference (JPC) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) are leading in one seat each. Independent candidates have also made a mark, with one independent candidate winning a seat and six others leading in various constituencies.
