New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was at it again. At a Bihar Police function, he made a humble request — folding his hands — to the state’s top cop Alok Raj to speed up the recruitment of police personnel in the department.
On Monday, Kumar was at an event in which as many as 1,239 newly-appointed police officers were handed appointment letters. While addressing the audience, he looked at Bihar DGP Alok Raj and urged him to put more recruitments on the fast track. “Jaldi kar na dijiyega? (Won’t you get this done fast?)” he asked, with folded hands.
Taken aback, the top cop made a salute to the Chief Minister. However, Kumar insisted, “Won’t you get this done soon, tell me?” The senior police officer then walked towards the other podium. After getting there, he took the mike and said, “Bihar Police is focused on fulfilling the honorable Chief Minister’s directions. We will ensure swift recruitment and thorough training,” Raj said. “Thank you,” Kumar responded with a smile.

The remarks of Kumar come at a time when the Opposition has lambasted the law and order situation in Bihar, with rising crime graph. In 2025, Bihar is going to witness Assembly polls. The Nitish Kumar-led BJP-JDU alliance government is grappling with the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Lat week, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, said that there’s no district where loot, kidnapping, murder, and rape are not happening. “However, no action is being taken. Even is an FIR is registered, there is no investigation. People are crying for justice. CM Nitish Kumar has failed to ensure law and order in Bihar, he has failed to run Bihar,” he had said.
