Jaipur: In a major enhancement to air travel in the Pink City, Jaipur Airport is set to open a new terminal dedicated exclusively to international travelers. This terminal, situated in Sanganer, was originally the main airport before operations transitioned to Terminal 2.
Managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, the refurbished terminal is now prepared to handle international air traffic. It will officially commence operations on October 27, welcoming an Air India Express flight from Dubai shortly after midnight. Currently, Jaipur offers flights to six international destinations, primarily in the Middle East and Kuala Lumpur, catering to a substantial workforce that migrates to the Middle East for business opportunities and employment.
State Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the reopening of Terminal 1 marks a huge milestone for Jaipur and Rajasthan, enhancing growth opportunities and connectivity. As the state’s only international gateway, it reflects a commitment to improving the travel experience for millions of global passengers.
Enhanced connectivity and drive growth
The chief minister said the terminal’s role in attracting international flights, boosting tourism and facilitating cultural exchange. With an upcoming investment summit, the government aims to strengthen air connectivity and services, positioning Jaipur Airport as essential to Rajasthan’s development.
The new terminal boasts 10 check-in counters, duty-free shops, and various food and beverage options, along with a lounge, medical facilities, and an ambulance on standby. Its design reflects the heritage of the Pink City, featuring motifs of camels, elephants, peacocks, palaces, and forts. The vibrant colour scheme combines shades of orange and purple, while intricate wood carvings and jaali work highlight Jaipur’s signature architectural style throughout the interior.
Passenger experience and sustainability
After being closed for several years, this terminal will provide a modern, dedicated facility for passengers. Covering an area of 128,000 square feet and capable of accommodating 1.5 million travelers annually, it pays meticulous attention to detail, advanced security protocols and world-class amenities. Terminal 1 at Jaipur International Airport is also committed to sustainability by using recyclable materials in its construction and operations.
