Lucknow: Samajawadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has announced that all INDIA bloc candidates will contest upcoming bypolls in Uttar Pradesh on his party’s symbol ‘çycle’. The former UP CM also said that that it was not about seats, but victory of the alliance.
Akhilesh said that the decision of contesting on ‘cycle’ has filled workers of the alliance partners with new energy and resolve to win.
Why is INDIA alliance contesting UP bypolls on SP symbol?
‘It is not about seats but about winning. Under this strategy, the joint candidates of ‘India Alliance’ will contest on all the 9 seats on the Samajwadi Party’s election symbol,’ shared Akhilesh on microblogging site X.
Yadav further added that Samajwadi Party and the Congress are working hard for the ‘big’ victory in the upcoming bypolls on 9 Assembly seats.
“Congress and Samajwadi Party are united and stand shoulder to shoulder for a big victory. India bloc is going to write a new chapter of victory in this by-election,” said Yadav on X.

The SP chief said that the upcoming bypoll in Uttar Pradesh will be fought for the protection of the Constitution, peace, and the honour of “Pichchde (backwards), Dalit and Alpsankhyak (Minorities).”
Why bypolls are being held in Uttar Pradesh?
Bypolls are being held on November 13 on nine seats in UP– Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Kundarki (Moradabad), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Sishamau (Kanpur city), Majhawan (Mirzapur), Khair (Aligarh) and Phulpur (Prayagraj).
While eight of these seats fell vacant after sitting MLAS here were elected for Lok Sabha in May this year, bypoll to the Sisamau seat are being held after disqualification of SP MLA Irfan Solanki, who was convicted in a criminal case.
As per the media reports earlier, the Congress party had initially demanded five of 10 assembly seats (including Milkipur). The Akhilesh Yadav’s party however had agreed to spare only two seats – Ghaziabad and Khair (Aligarh).
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced by-election on nine seats, leaving out Milkipur (Ayodhya).
As per the schedule, the last date for filing nominations is October 25. Voting on all nine seats will be held on November 13, while counting of votes will take place on November 23.
