New Delhi: A routine security check at Cochin International Airport turned into a tense standoff on Sunday morning when a passenger, 42-year-old Manoj Kumar, casually inquired about the presence of a bomb in his bag. This seemingly innocuous question sent shockwaves through airport security, triggering a swift and comprehensive response.
Kumar, scheduled to board an Air India flight to Mumbai, was flagged by a CISF officer during the X-ray baggage inspection. His casual comment, “Is there any bomb in my bag?”, was enough to raise serious concern. Airport security, taking no chances, immediately escalated the situation, calling in the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) to conduct a thorough search of Kumar’s belongings and the surrounding area.
While the BDDS found no suspicious items, the incident caused significant disruption, leading to a temporary lockdown of the airport. Kumar was subsequently handed over to the local police for further investigation. The situation at the airport returned to normal immediately after the police took away Kumar.
This incident echoes a similar event at Delhi Airport in May, where a tissue paper with the word ‘bomb’ written on it was found in a lavatory.
