New Delhi: Following Israel’s October 26 strikes, Iran has reportedly deployed its new air defense missile system ‘Zoubin’ to safeguard capital Tehran and and other strategic areas against any possible air strikes. As per the reports, Zoubin’s can detect up to 100 targets simultaneously in a 30 km radius.
The indigenously built system is capable of 360-degree interception, like Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ air defense system system.
Is Iran’s ‘Zoubin’ better than Israel’s Iron Dome?
This Iranian missile defense system is developed to intercept and destroy a wide range of low-altitude aerial threats, like short-range cruise missiles, rockets, drones, artillery shells, even helicopters, and low-flying fighter planes.
Following October 26 attacks where Israel targetted Iran’s Shahroud Space Center, a military spaceport in Semnan, Iran has deployed the Zoubin system around Tehran to strengthen its defenses.
Mounted on a 6X6 truck allowing it quick mobility and broad coverage benefit, ‘Zoubin’ is touted as Iran’s counter to Israel’s Iron Dome. Equipped with radar capable of tracing about 100 targets at a time within a range of 30 km radius. Zoubin appears to be stronger on paper, but its real test would be in case of any furthers airstrikes by Israel.
Israel’s attack on Iran
On October 26, Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, its first open strike against Tehran, targetting Iranian military locations in precision strikes. After the attacks, Iran’s military had said that only radar systems were damaged in Israeli strikes on Tehran and other provinces. Israel had warned Iran that it would “pay a heavy price” if it responded to the strikes, while the United States and Britain both demanded Tehran not escalate the conflict further.
Iran warns of ‘harsh’ response to Israel attack
Iran on Thursday warned of a “harsh and regretful” response to Saturday’s deadly Israeli attack on Iranian military facilities, local media reported after officials and media initially downplayed the strikes. “The recent action of the Zionist regime in attacking parts of our country was a desperate move and the Islamic Republic of Iran will give it a harsh and regretful response,” said Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, a senior aide to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, quoted by Tasnim news agency, according to AFP.
