New Delhi: The Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has called for Bharat Bandh tomorrow in response to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on reservations. After the announcement, the SC/ST groups in Rajasthan have extended their support for the bandh.
Why Bharat Bandh?
Earlier on August 1, the apex court had allowed the state governments to create sub-categories within the scheduled castes (SCs) as well as scheduled tribes (ST). In its direction, the SC also said that those who need the reservation should get it on priority. The group has called the Bharat Bandh in demand for the decision of the order issued by the court
After the announcement, the Rajasthan Police have been asked to increase deployment in all districts. Instructions have also been given to SPs in the state to ensure law and order situation. The senior police and civil officials held a meeting to check preparations for the bandh to avoid any untoward incident. Among those who attended the meeting were divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and senior police officers.
Which services will remain open?
The Supreme Court’s ruling has resulted in a huge debate on reservations. The bandh is expected to be supported by various political and social groups. The authorities have taken various steps to ensure proper security measures during the one-day bandh. With Western Uttar Pradesh being particularly sensitive, the police have been asked to be extra cautious. Ambulance services, and medical services in hospitals and pharmacies will remain open. Schools, colleges, and businesses will be run as usual.
