New Delhi: The military escalation in the Middle East are likely to spike after Iran supreme leader has reportedly ordered a retaliatory strike on Israeli military targets. The revelations come in a New York Times report who cited three Iranian officials familiar with the country’s war planning.
According to the report, the Iranian supreme leader has ordered the country’s Supreme National Security Council to prepare for retaliatory strikes against Israeli targets.
Tit-for-tat Iran-Israel strikes
On October 26, the Israeli air force allegedly supported by United States targeted Iran’s missile sites and other military target in retaliation for the Iran’s October 1 attack on its military targets. Iran had reportedly fired at least 200 ballistic missiles at various Israeli air force bases and military sites and claimed widespread destruction.
Why Iran deciding to retaliate against Israel
The NYT report suggests that Khamenei’s decision comes after reviewing the damage assessment to its missile production capabilities and air defenses around it capital city Tehran. Earlier, reports had said that Iran supreme leader had cautioned not to downplay or exaggerate the Israeli attacks on Iranian soil.
According to Iranian news agency Meher, General Sardar Ali Fadavi, deputy commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), had warned of a definite response against the Israeli ‘Zionist’ aggression on its soil. Sardar also asserted that Iran has not left any aggression unanswered in over 40 years and it can target everything the ‘Zionists’ have in one operation.
