New Delhi: The countdown has started as the 10 IPL franchises gear up to finalise their retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The deadline for the franchises to submit their list of retained players is 5 PM on October 31, Thursday.
Each franchise is allowed to retain six players with a maximum limit of five capped players and two uncapped players. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is likely to retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player after the IPL Governing Council brought back the ‘uncapped player rule’. As per the rule, any Indian cricketer who hasn’t played an international cricket match in the last five years and is also not contracted with BCCI can be termed as an uncapped player.
Dhoni last played an international match for India during the 2019 ODI World Cup in the semifinal against New Zealand. For the capped player, a franchise has to spend Rs. 18 Crore (slot 1 and 4), Rs 14 crore (slot 4 and 5) and Rs 11 crore (slot 5). For uncapped players, franchises have to spend 4 crore each. Other than Dhoni, eyes will be on the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.
As per the reports, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are not very interested in retaining their star players and there are very strong chances that they will be up in the auction which is scheduled in late November.
