Apple is again expected to make a transforming change in the next iPhone lineup. After introducing a Plus model in the iPhone 14 series two years back, Apple is reportedly working to bring a new iPhone 17 Slim (or Air) next year. While the name is still part of speculations, several leaks suggest that it will be a new entrant in the iPhone 17 lineup while replacing the “Plus” model, in favour of a slimmer iPhone.
Recently, analyst Jeff Pu shed light on the expected specifications, changes in design and cameras for this new iPhone 17 Slim next year. Here is what to expect.
iPhone 17 Slim: What Will Be Different
As mentioned, the core idea for the new iPhone is suggested to be a slimmer iPhone and not just a bigger display at a reasonable price. While the size of the display for the iPhone 17 Slim has been conflicting so far, but latest leak by investment bank Haitong International, analyst Jeff Pu, quoted by MacRumors suggests that it may have a 6.6-inch display. It must be noted that the current iPhone 16 Plus features a 6.7-inch display.
Some past leaks and the latest research note by Jeff Pu suggest that the iPhone 17 Slim could be powered by a standard A19 chipset, manufactured with the same process as the A18 Pro chipset with a 3nm process, used in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Moreover, it is expected to have a slimmer Dynamic Island.
The main change is expected to be the cameras. Based on the leaks and rumours, the iPhone 17 Slim may have a single camera setup at the back of a 48MP. While the upgrade could be in the selfie camera with a 24MP front camera. Apart from these, the Aluminium design, 8GB RAM for Apple Intelligence, and Face ID are some obvious features to expect.
However, the launch of the iPhone 17 Slim is expected with the flagship series next September 2025. Hence, we still have a lot of time. In the meantime, there is a possibility that some of the specifications and features may or may not meet the reality.
