Indore: Outrage erupted in Indore after a woman uploaded videos of her roaming in the city’s popular food markets wearing skimpy clothes which prompted criticism from Madhya Pradesh Kailash Vijayvargiya and the Bajrang Dal who demanded police action against her. The woman later apologised for her actions.
The police said they would initiate legal action against the woman after consulting legal experts in the matter. The video of the woman’s daring act wearing revealing clothes went viral and evoked outrage from netizens who called out her “obscenity”.
The Instagram creator had posted videos of herself strolling through Meghdoot Chaat-Chowpatty and 56 Dukan Chaat-Chowpatty, two well-known street food spots, titled “Public Reaction” and later revealed on social media that she is contemplating suicide following the outrage and demands of actions against. Speaking in Hindi, she claimed to be a resident of Dubai.
State minister Kailash Vijayvargiya slammed the woman for wearing “revealing” clothing, calling it an act of “indecency” that doesn’t belong in a “cultural city” like Indore. In response, Bajrang Dal and other outfits have called for police action, with authorities stating they will consult legal experts before proceeding.
Meanwhile, some social media users speculated that the videos were a publicity stunt by the woman to boost her “followers” and gain attention.
Praveen Darekar, the local unit convenor of Bajrang Dal, announced that his organization has submitted a written complaint against the woman at the Tukoganj and Vijay Nagar police stations.
As the controversy grew, the woman turned to Instagram to issue an apology. “I realize now that I should not have worn such short clothes in public. I promise I won’t do it again. Please forgive me and leave me alone. I want to commit suicide,” she said in one of her videos.
