In yet another incident of in-flight harassment, a male passenger has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman aboard an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Guwahati. The woman’s complaint prompted swift action from both the airline and the authorities.
Male Passenger Arrested on IndiGo Flight from Mumbai to Guwahati
The female passenger, seated by the window, reported that her male co-passenger repeatedly attempted to touch her inappropriately during the flight. She recalled that the incidents occurred when the cabin lights were dimmed, and initially, she tried to ignore them. However, as the harassment persisted, she decided to take action.
The woman lowered the armrest between their seats, but when she woke up later, she discovered that the armrest had been lifted, and the male passenger was leaning closer to her. Still, she refrained from immediate confrontation, attributing it to a possible mistake. She recounted the unsettling experience, saying, “I thought it was strange because I clearly remembered putting the hand down. Half-asleep, I didn’t think much about it, put the armrest down again, and went to sleep.”
IndiGo Takes Action Against Alleged Harasser
As the flight continued, the male passenger’s advances became more brazen. When he tried to touch her inappropriately once more, the woman finally screamed in response. She switched on the seat lights, called the cabin crew, and recounted the incident, stating, “He started apologizing for his actions while I was screaming, crying, and narrating the incident.”
Upon landing in Guwahati, the male passenger was promptly handed over to the police. An FIR for sexual harassment has been filed against him. IndiGo issued a statement acknowledging the incident and confirming their cooperation with the authorities. The airline also extended support to the female passenger throughout the process. She expressed gratitude to the CISF, airline staff, and airport officials who assisted her in filing the case. This marks the fourth reported case of sexual harassment on flights in the past two months.
