New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday (February 21) issued notice to states of Assam and Maharashtra on a plea filed by Youtuber Ashish Chanchlani seeking to quash or transfer to Mumbai a First Information Report (FIR) registered in Guwahati, Assam against him in connection with obscene remarks made during ‘India’s Got Latent’ show.
A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh issued notice on Chanchlani’s plea and tagged it with the plea filed by influencer Ranveer Allahabadia.

The bench tagged the matter after the counsel representing Chanchlani told the bench that he was not seeking interim relief and was against of registration of multiple FIRs and that which FIR should be considered and the matter be tagged with influencer Ranveer Allahabadia’s plea.
Chanchlani was granted relief by Gauhati High Court, bench noted
The top court bench noted that Chanchlani was granted interim relief by the Gauhati High Court, and the FIRs arise out of the same show in which Allahbadia was earlier granted interim relief and the matter was before it.
“Issue notice and tag,” the bench said.
Assam Police has registered an FIR naming Allahabadia, Chanchlani and others
Chanchlani is one of the five persons named in a case registered by the Assam Police, in which influencer Ranveer Allahbadia has been named accused along with comedian Samay Raina, Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija in connection with the remarks made on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
The FIR was registered by the Guwahati Police on a complaint of one Alok Boruah on February 10 under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhtia (BNS), Information Technology Act, Cinematograph Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
What has Chanchlani said in this plea?
Chanchlani, in his plea filed before the top court sought quashing of the FIR registered at Guwahati.
“Quash the FIR bearing No. 03 of 2025 registered at Cyber PS Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam as it was registered later,” the plea said.
Chanchalani, in the alternative, has sought transfer of the said FIR registered to Mumbai Police Station Nodal Cyber, Mumbai as FIR registered at Mumbai Police Station Nodal Cyber, Mumbai was registered first.

The apex court earlier this week granted Allahabadia interim protection from arrest subject to his joining investigation and cooperating fully into the investigation. The top court, however, slammed him for his distasteful remarks made during ‘India’s Got Latent’ show on YouTube.
The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Chanchlani while hearing his anticipatory bail petition and asked him to be present before the investigating officer within 10 days.
