New Delhi: A Mumbai Police team on Monday visited the studio in the Khar area, where the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’ was filmed, following a number of controversial remarks made in one of its episodes.
The row broke out after comments made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who made his appearance as a guest on the show. The Mumbai Police visited the studio after a formal complaint lodged against Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, and the organisers of the show.
The complaint filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission said that abusive language was allegedly used on the show. The complainant has demanded stringent legal action against the accused.
Inquiries conducted by police team
According to information, the police team has already conducted inquiries in Andheri, Wadala, Khar, and Matunga. In Khar West, a two-hour investigation took place at the Habitat Studio next to the railway station, where four staff members were questioned. A Mumbai police team arrived at Ranveer Allahabadi’s house in Wadala, but he was not found there. A female police officer also went to another contestant’s house in Khar Santacruz, but she was also not found at her place.
Mumbai police sources said that in this case, official questioning will be conducted tonight or by tomorrow. Ranveer Allahabadi, Samay Raina, and all the contestants who were present on stage during the show will be called in for police interrogation. An official FIR could also be filed in this case, even though Ranveer ALlahabadi has publicly apologised. The police are seeking legal advice in this matter.
So far, more than 15 complaints have been filed with the Mumbai police against the show, demanding the registration of an FIR. Some workers from Sharad Pawar’s party also sought a complaint and visited the Khar police station. A complainant stated, “We have come to the police station to demand end of this show and the registration of an FIR against all the contestants.”
