New Delhi: An Indian national has been sentenced to death by a Saudi Arabia court on charges of drugs possession. The man identified as Zaid is said to be from Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. His family has alleged that he has been framed in the case and claimed his innocence.
35-year-old Zaid, a native of Rachhoti village under Mundali police station, had gone to Saudi Arabia to work as a driver in 2021. He has been sentenced to death by a court, according to his relatives.
Meerut Police receive notice from Saudi authorities
The Meerut Police have been informed about the development. Reports say Zaid was arrested on charges of drug peddling and sentenced to death. As Meerut Police informed the family about the development, panic gripped the house.
Zaid had been kept at Jeddah Central Jail since on Jan 15, 2023. The Saudi police accuse Zaid of peddling 700 gm of contrabands.
Zaid’s parents to contest case in Saudi Arabia
The matter came to light after Meerut Police SSP received a notice from Ministry of Internal Affairs in Saudi Arabia. The notice said that if Zaid’s parents want to contest the case, then they can approach the court. Meanwhile, Zaid’s family has decided to go to Saudi Arabia and contest the charges.
In 2021, Zaid went to Saudi Arabia to work as car driver. The parents said they don’t have any idea how he was involved in the drugs. Zaid was working in a company as a driver but was slapped with a recovery notice following an accident.

Zaid’s family has been given time till Jan 15, 2025 to present their case. His other brother Naeem also works in Saudi Arabia as a driver.
