New Delhi: A ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Army was reported along the Line of Control in the Balakote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday evening. Initial reports suggest that Pakistani troops engaged in unprovoked firing, prompting a strong response from the Indian Army. There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage on the Indian side. Sources said Pakistan Army suffered casualties in the retaliatory action by the Indian Army.
15 rounds fired by Pak Army
Tensions in the area mounted as Pakistani forces allegedly breached the ceasefire by opening fire on Indian Army troops. The Pakistani army reportedly fired 15 rounds on Wednesday, forcing the Indian side to respond promptly. The 15 rounds of fire by the Pakistani forces did not result in any casualties or injuries to Indian Army personnel. However, it escalated the tension, and the Indian Army had to retaliate. After the retaliatory firing, there was an uneasy calm.
Army jawan injured in mine blast
In another incident, a jawan was injured in a mine blast along LoC in Poonch sector. Details about the blast are still awaited.
Earlier in December last year, an Army jawan was killed in a mine blast while patrolling along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The jawan was carrying out an area domination patrol in the general area of Thanedar Tekri along the LoC when he accidentally stepped on a mine, triggering the blast. Officials had identified the deceased as Havildar V Subbaiah Varikunta of the 25 Rashtriya Rifles.
