New Delhi: A total of 73,000 more SIG716 assault rifles are being procured for the Indian soldiers deployed on the border of China and Pakistan. This information was given by the ammunition and pistol-making company SIG SAUER. After this delivery, the Indian Army will have more than 1,45,400 SIG716 assault rifles.
The special rifles will soon be available to the Indian soldiers. With this, the strength of the Indian Army and boost the morale of the soldiers deployed on the border manifold.
SIG SAUER President and CEO Ron Cohen said that the world’s second largest army has placed an order with it to send 73,000 more SIG716 assault rifles.
“We are proud to be a partner in the modernisation effort of the Indian Army, and prouder still that the SIG716 rifle achieves the Ministry of Defence’s modernisation goals with the second largest army in the world,” said Cohen.
Due to the special features of these rifles, they were given to the soldiers deployed in LAC and LOC in the past as well. The Ministry of Defence first awarded SIG SAUER a contract for the SIG716 in 2019 for 72,400 rifles.
“Since the initial fielding of the SIG716, we have received phenomenal end-user feedback on the performance and reliability of the platform. Throughout this time, we have strengthened and further solidified our partnership with the Indian Ministry of Defence and are honored to earn their continued trust equiping their frontline infantrymen,” Cohen added.
Key features of SIG716 assault rifle
The SIG716 is an enhanced AR platform chambered in 7.62 NATO featuring a 16-inch barrel, M-LOIC handguard, and a 6-position telescoping stock.
It is an automatic assault rifle. Its accuracy is 100%, which means there is complete guarantee of destroying the enemy. With this rifle, 685 rounds can be fired in a single minute. Its one magazine holds 20 bullets. NATO grade bullets are used in this.
Its range is 600 meters, which is more than the range of AK-47. The rifle is equipped with gas-operated rotating bolt system. An adjustable front can also be fitted to it, which makes it different from other rifles. Rear optics are also used in it.
There are four variants of this rifle available worldwide. The first variant is Sig 716 CQB. This rifle is made for close combat. Its size is small, but the aim is precise.
After this is the Sig-716 Carbine. This is the carbine format of the rifle. This is also a very deadly variant. Another variant is SIG-716 Precision Marksman. This variant is heavy. Its barrel length is 20 inches. It comes in semi-automatic format. SIG-716 petrol rifle, which is an original length rifle, is yet another variant.
