New Delhi: A team from the Indian Army, led by Lieutenant Colonel Anuj Singh, conducted a successful medical evacuation of an injured soldier from the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) stationed in the Golan Heights.
The operation took place using a C-130 Air Ambulance and involved coordination with the Indian Air Force, the Ministry of External Affairs, and other agencies.
How the soldier got injured?
The injured soldier, 33-year-old Havildar Suresh R, suffered severe head injuries in an accident while performing his duties with the UNDOF. He had been receiving treatment at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Israel, since August 22, where he was diagnosed with multiple serious conditions, including subarachnoid haemorrhage and diffuse axonal injury. He was not oriented to time, place, or person and displayed signs of confusion.
On September 20, Suresh was moved to a Level 1 Hospital in Israel before being evacuated to India. The medical team ensured that he received critical care support during the flight. His condition was stable, showing good vital signs with a saturation level above 98% and a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 10 out of 15.
What Indian Army officials said
The air ambulance departed Tel Aviv at 1.20 am IST and landed in Jamnagar, India, at 10 am IST. Afterward, Suresh was airlifted to Palam, arriving at around 2 pm on September 26. From there, he was sent to the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in New Delhi via ambulance.
“In a remarkable display of synergy, the Indian Armed Forces, supported by the #MoD successfully conducted a critical medical evacuation of Havildar Suresh R. On 20 Sept 2024, the individual suffered grievous injuries in the line of duty and was transferred to a #UN hospital in #Israel,” the Indian Army wrote on X.
