New Delhi: A controversy has erupted after pictures of Indian ambassador to Oman Amit Narana wearing a military uniform has surfaced online. Narang was seen donning the military uniform during the closing ceremony of the fifth edition of India-Oman joint military exercise Al Najah.
As the joint military exercise concluded on Thursday, the Indian Army shared some pictures from the ceremony held at Rabkoot Training Area, Salalah in Oman. The Indian envoy, who attended the ceremony along with other notable dignitaries, was seen wearing a military uniform in the photos.
Besides Narang, the event was attended by Indian Defence Attache to Oman Captain Harish Srinivasan. From the Oman side, Brigadier General Abdulkadhim Bin Ibrahim Al-Ajmi, Commander of the 11th Infantry Brigade, and Lieutenant Colonel Masood Mubarak Al-Ghafri, Commanding Officer of the Frontier Force, were present at the ceremony.
Row as Indian envoy to Oman sports military uniform
A social media user raised objection over the move and asked if it was some “new protocol” or just “another gimmick” for photo op. The user also evoked the recent incident of an alleged assault on an Army official and her fiancée at Bharatpur police state in Odisha’s Bhubhaneswar.
The uniform donned by Shri Amit Narang was supplied by you, @adgpi? Is this some new protocol or just another gimmick for photo op? Recently, veterans had bemoaned the degrading civil-military relations in the wake of Bharatpur incident. This is how we plan to improve it? https://t.co/lcpovXzpT4
