New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has predicted a wet spell for several parts of the country, including Delhi-NCR. Some states are likely to continue receiving rainfall throughout this week, while thunderstorms are predicted for Rajasthan.
Heavy to very rainfall predicted for parts of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand
In its latest bulletin, the IMD said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over isolated places of Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karikal and Kerala and Mahe on Tuesday. Meanwhile, heavy rains, approximately less than 7 cm are likely to occur over isolated regions of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.
Apart from the northeastern states of the country, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, interior parts of Karnataka and Lakshadweep islands are also likely to witness heavy rains on Tuesday. Some parts of Rajasthan meanwhile may witness thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning.
Wet spell to continue in Delhi-NCR
Meanwhile the weather department has predicted a wet-spell for Delhi-NCR till Friday. Rains are possible during the day in the region and cloudy skies were witnessed on Tuesday also. The region saw rains on Monday late night as well.
Gujarat to see squally weather, high speed winds
Meanwhile on the western coast of India, squally weather with wind speed reaching around 35-45 kmph is likely. The states where this phenomenon is likely to occur include northern parts of Gujarat, South Kerala, Lakshadweep islands and Gulf of Mannar. Similar conditions are likely over northeast and adjoining northwest Arabian sea, parts of east central Arabian Sea and west central Arabian sea.
Meanwhile squally winds with speed reaching 65 kmph are likely over west central and adjoining areas of southwest Arabian Sea. The weather department has warned fishermen to not venture into these areas.
Rainfall washes away roads in Himachal, cause 20 deaths in Rajasthan
Meanwhile monsoon fury was witnessed in full force in both North India and Western India. Around 197 roads were closed, many areas plunged into darkness, and water supply services were hit in Himachal Pradesh on Monday, as rains continued to lash several districts in the state.
According to state emergency operation centre (SEOC), heavy rains and landslides forced 66 roads to stay closed in Shimla district, 58 roads in Sirmaur district, 33 in Mandi, 26 in Kullu, five in Lahaul-Spiti, apart from some more in Kinnaur.
In Rajasthan meanwhile, 20 people died in various rain-related incidents. Continuous rainfall occurred in Jaipur and Bharatpur. Rainfall ranging from 100mm to 258mm was recorded in Dausa, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts. Heavy rains have disrupted normal life in the state and waterlogging was reported from several low-lying areas. The Met department has issued a red alert for Jaipur, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts, where heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours.
