India weather: IMD warns of heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand; check forecast of your state

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across various regions of India over the coming week. This monsoon activity is expected to bring both light and heavy showers, with some areas likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall.

In Northwest India, states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to see fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan will also experience scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, while Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Rajasthan can expect more isolated to scattered showers. 

The IMD has also predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on August 19 and 20, Himachal Pradesh from August 17 to 20, Uttarakhand from August 17 to 20, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on August 20; West Uttar Pradesh from August 18 to 22, East Uttar Pradesh from August 17 to 22, West Rajasthan on August 17. 

In West and Central India, states such as Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa, and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall. 

The Gujarat region and Marathwada can expect scattered to fairly widespread showers, while Madhya Maharashtra and Saurashtra & Kutch will see more isolated to scattered rainfall during the week. 

The IMD has indicated that isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Madhya Pradesh from August 17 to 22, Vidarbha from August 17 to 20, Chhattisgarh from August 17 to 21, Konkan and Goa from August 18 to 21, Madhya Maharashtra on August 19 and 20. Chhattisgarh, in particular, is expected to experience isolated very heavy rainfall on August 17.

In East and Northeast India, the IMD predicts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall across eastern regions, while the northeastern states will see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall throughout the week. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from August 20 to 22, Gangetic West Bengal from August 17 to 20, Bihar from August 18 to 20, and Jharkhand and Odisha from August 17 to 20. 

Arunachal Pradesh is expected to see heavy showers on August 22, while Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive significant rainfall on August 17, and from August 20 to 22. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall from August 17 to 22. In addition, Gangetic West Bengal may face isolated very heavy rainfall from August 17 to 19, with Jharkhand, Odisha, and parts of the northeastern states likely to see similarly intense rainfall on specific dates.

In South Peninsular India, the IMD forecasts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall over Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Coastal Karnataka. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Interior Karnataka will experience scattered to fairly widespread rainfall throughout the week. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
