Independence Day: AAP leader Manish Sisodia’s padayatra postponed due to security issues

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia was forced to postpone his planned padyatra on Wednesday. Now the padyatra will commence on August 16. The reason for the postponement was security issues raised by the police department, ahead of the Independence Day celebrations in the capital.

Manish Sisodioa’s padyatra from Greater Kailash

The Delhi Police said that due to the celebration of Independence Day in the capital, several routes will be closed or diverted. Sisodia’s padyatra was scheduled to start from Greater Kailash. The yatra had been planned by the AAP, in order to commence the campaign for the Assembly Elections which are to be held early next year.

The padyatra by the party came at a time when it had received a boost, due to the release of its senior leader Manish Sisodia. He got bail in the Delhi Excise Policy scam case, after spending more than a year in prison. This padyatra was a very unlikely move for Sisodia, who has always been seen as more of a policy and organisational leader.

This padyatra comes at a time when the convener of the party and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is in custody. The party was looking to hit the ground soon, ahead of the Assembly elections next year, so that they have an upper hand as compared to the opposition.
