New Delhi: After the entire first day was washed out due to the rain, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in overcast conditions at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. But the decision backfired as the Men in Blue lost three wickets in the first hour of the match. Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Sarfaraz Khan were dismissed cheaply.
KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin also got out on a duck. Only two Indian batters crossed the 10-run mark and Rishabh Pant was the highest run-scorer in the first innings. Matt Henry picked up five wickets while William ORourke took four wickets.
Conway and Tom Latham provided a great start to the Blackcaps and stitched a 67-run partnership for the first wicket. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed New Zealand skipper Latham on 15 runs but Conway batted brilliantly and built another 75-run partnership with Will Young.
Jadeja removed Young on 33 runs and Ashwin dismissed Conway on 91 runs. New Zealand scored 180 runs, losing 3 wickets at stumps on Day 2. Team India will look to make a strong comeback on Day 3 by taking some early wickets.
