Sudhanshu Trivedi’s bizarre New Year greetings
In a bizarre New Year’s message, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi congratulated people on the first day of the “English New Year”. He traced its origins to ancient Roman traditions and subsequent adaptations by European leaders. Addressing a press conference in Delhi, he said, “Friends, it is 1st January. I would like to congratulate you all that in the name of Roman God Janus, Roman King Numa Memphalus, started by Julius Ceasar and corrected in 1582 by Pope Gregory the 13th and recognised by Britishers in 1752. Congratulations to all of you on the first day of English New Year.”

Dig at Kejriwal
In the press conference, Trivedi also criticised AAP supremo and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for his pre-poll promise of giving Rs 18,000 to priests and granthis, calling him a “bagula bhagat” (pretentious devotee). He accused AAP of unreliability and pursuing “old Congress politics.” He listed AAP’s failures in fulfilling promises on various issues, including pollution, healthcare and corruption cases involving party leaders.
